7. States of matter

Bitesize GCSE Chemistry

Available for over a year

In this episode, Dr Sunayana Bhargava and Tulela Pea explore the states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. They define melting and freezing, and boiling and condensing points. Suitable for: AQA, Edexcel, OCR. For more information on states of matter, check out the BBC Bitesize website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zwsdgdm/revision/1 Key learning objectives discussed in this episode include: - The three states of matter are solid, liquid and gas. Melting and freezing take place at the melting point, boiling and condensing take place at the boiling point. - The amount of energy needed to change state from solid to liquid and from liquid to gas depends on the strength of the forces between the particles of the substance. The stronger the forces between the particles the higher the melting point and boiling point of the substance.
