Why is Covid-19 Still Hitting Some People Hard?

5 Questions On

Available for over a year

It's not unusual to be under the weather in the winter – but why are some people being hit hard by the latest Covid-19 variants, so long after the worst of the pandemic? While some people escape with a runny nose or minor cough, Covid can leave other people with fevers, aching joints and even serious breathing problems. The rollout of vaccines across the UK was meant to reduce our risks of developing serous illnesses. The jabs were designed to improve our bodies' defences against the virus – so why are some people feeling so dreadful when they catch it? For 5 Questions On, the BBC's health reporter and host of the Covid Inquiry Podcast on BBC Sounds, Jim Reed explains what's going on.
