Leicester Council warns of bankruptcy in two years

Ady Dayman

Available for over a year

Leicester City Council could effectively go bankrupt in under two years-- that's the stark warning from City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby to the government. He's written to Secretary of State Michael Gove outlining his concerns - saying they may have to issue a Section 114 notice before setting their 2025/26 budget. We have approached the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities for comment on this story and await their response.
