Writer Hollie McNish and poet Nafeesa Hamid explore the key events in the plot of Anita and Me, Meera Syal’s coming-of-age novel. They’ll be helping you to prepare for your GCSE English literature exam where you’ll need to understand and write about the key themes of the book. They share what they think are the most interesting and important things that happen in the story, which follows two important years in the life of its central character, Meena Kumar, why they happen and what are the effects.
