Nicola Adams in 2017

BBC Archive

Available for over a year

The best way of describing Nicola Adams’ boxing career is glittering. She became the first ever women’s Olympic gold medallist for boxing in 2012, took home more gold medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 European Games, before successfully defending her Olympic win in 2016. To add further weight to her mantlepiece, she received an OBE in 2013 for services to boxing. It’s surely a well deserved award because on her retirement from professional boxing in 2019, she’d never lost a fight. She’s good with her feet too. In 2020 she made Strictly history as part of show’s first same sex couple. In 2017, as she made the switch from amateur to professional boxing, she spoke to Nihal Arthanayake about her career and wanting to inspire the next generation of women boxers.
