U OK Hun? takes place within the mind of a young woman battling with anxiety and attempting to overcome demons from her past. A microcosm of the ‘Hero’s journey’, over the course of the poem our protagonist is able to subdue and transcend her own negative feelings and self-image, and impel herself to get out of bed and make a cup of tea. ‘U OK hun’ is the story of a person completely overwhelmed by the prospect of facing the day, who finds the mental strength to challenge her own deafening internal monologue and take the day for herself.
