Family, friends, the Jubilee and a flash of the 'old' Mum

Andrew Edwards

Available for over a year

Andrew's daughter joins him for a visit. She's now 22 and is going to be away for a few months over the summer, so wanted to see Carolyn before leaving. But would Grandma remember her first grandchild? The answer, it seems, is yes. Barbara, one of Mum's friends, calls after lunch and is rewarded with a couple of lovely smiles. It's the day after the long Platinum Jubilee weekend and Andrew enjoys the conversation about happier times. The two friends met when they were pregnant 55 years ago. Carolyn has, in relative terms, had a chatty few days. At the breakfast visit the carers get a brief flash of the 'old' Mum. When her drink was put straight onto the table in front of her she said, out of the blue: 'Put it on the mat!'. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on BBC Radio Leeds.
