Orchestra workshops for Schoolkids

Coventry: UK City of Culture 2021

Available for over a year

For the past few weeks, the British Police Symphony Orchestra has been hosting musical workshops at Southfields Primary School and Spon Gate Primary. The pupils will beatbox and recite a poem they've written in front of an audience of hundreds during a special school showcase at Coventry Cathedral. They will also perform Che Che Kule, a Ghanaian piece of music, learned at the workshops and also working with the orchestra is local musician Fareed Siddiqui from Impact Steel Band. The schools showcase and the workshops have been organised by West Midlands Police as part of our contribution to Coventry UK City of Culture celebrations. The British Police Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert at the city’s cathedral on Saturday May 7th. The musicians will perform the world premiere of the orchestral arrangement of Ghost Town by the Specials and the UK premiere of The Borrowed Dress by Syrian-Canadian composer Suad Bushnaq. BBC CWR's City of Culture reporter went along to the final musical workshop
