Innovative new procedure to safely remove throat cancer performed in Leicester for first time

Leicester's hospitals are at the forefront of lots of different medical technologies. They have now produced an innovative new procedure to remove throat cancer. It is called an endoscopic oropharyngectomy. The procedure was carried out by Dr Oladejo Olaleye, who deployed a tiny, flexible high-definition camera which helped him clearly see where the cancer was. He then removed it using a small surgical instruments without having to use traditional open surgery techniques. Patients are said to benefit from better swallowing outcomes, improved pain control and quicker recovery times.
