To mark the Jewish new year, Michael Freedland reflects on the turbulent events of the previous 12 months – starting with the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Michael also speaks to Denzil Sebag-Montefiore about his brother the bishop and to former prime minister Harold Wilson on his son the kibbutznik, as well as listening to Yiddishist Leo Rosten, cantor Richard Tucker – and the voice of former Chief Rabbi Joseph Hertz, in an archive recording from 1943.
