Prince Phillip: The Duke of Edinburgh's love of sailing

Alex Dyke

Available for over a year

Sailing was one of Prince Philip's passions. He attended almost every Cowes Week since the War, often as a competitor with his sailing mentor, the late Uffa Fox. Until 1964, the event was run by eight clubs running separate programmes from different starting lines. His Royal Highness initiated the Cowes Combined Clubs Committee, bringing the event under one umbrella. Laurence Mead is the current Regatta Director at Cowes Week, who shared his memories with BBC Radio Solent's Steve Harris..
