'Taking the knee is just cosmetic' - Carlos Brathwaite

Stumped

Available for over a year

West Indies cricketer Carlos Brathwaite tells the Stumped presenters Alison Mitchell, Jim Maxwell and Charu Sharma why he thinks that taking the knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement is purely cosmetic and "someone being killed wrongfully by police doesn’t change if the players take a knee". The former West Indies captain explained why he thinks that taking the knee or wearing a badge in protest against racial injustice is not necessarily helpful to the movement – instead he believes we should focus on changing mindsets through education and addressing negative stereotypes in relation to race.
