Violin concertos don’t get much grander or more musically satisfying than this. The first movement alone is one of his greatest achievements, with a seemingly simple theme giving way to music of tenderness and beauty. A moving Adagio, and a joyful Allegro Giocoso make for perhaps the greatest violin concerto of all. Composer: Johannes Brahms Performers: BBC National Orchestra of Wales Performer: Esther Yoo (Violin) Conductor: Christoph Koenig Recording date: 12 May 2015 Date of broadcast: 12 May 2015
