The 'Clarinet Sonata' is Bernstein's first published piece, around ten minutes in length and consists of two movements. Much of the music foreshadows 'West Side Story', Bernstein's most famous work, with its Latin- and jazz-infused content and frequently changing time signatures. Today, it is a popular piece with clarinettists and audiences alike.
