Describing the title of this work, Adams summed it up by saying: 'You know how it is when someone asks you to ride in a terrific sports car, and then you wish you hadn't?' Short Ride is one of the most performed orchestral works of recent times, and is a joyful, exciting fanfare written for large orchestral forces. As is typical of Adams's music, the beat is steadily marked throughout, most notably by the woodblock, which adds to the mounting excitement and suspense. Composer: John Adams Performer: BBC National Orchestra of Wales Conductor: Thomas Søndergård Recording date: 18 July 2015 Date of broadcast: 18 July 2015
