‘My father took me to see the sofa where Hitler died’

5 Live News Specials

Available for over a year

Nemone Lethbridge was seven years old when World War Two broke out. Her father, Major-General John Lethbridge, had commanded operations in Burma and when the war ended he was posted to Germany to investigate Hitler’s death. He decided Nemone, then aged 12, and her younger brother Peter should ‘learn a little history’ and took the children to see the place where Hitler had died. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Emma Barnett, Nemone described the journey through the bunker as well as her recollections of VE Day and her thoughts on comparing the UK coronavirus lockdown to living through World War Two.
