Hypebeast culture: Why do fashion fans queue for hours?

Live Wires

Available for over a year

In the past five to ten years, there has been a huge culture developing in fashion - particularly in the streetwear scene - labelled by many as ‘Hypebeast’. Fashion fanatics are queuing for hours, with some limited release items selling out online in seconds. It has created a huge resale market, where buyers can sometimes double or triple the price they originally paid, even if the items are worn. 5 Live’s Anna Foster and Tony Livesey find out more from guest reporter and fashion fan, Sam Harris. They are also joined by self-proclaimed ‘UK’s biggest hype beast’ Ari Petrou, The Sole Supplier CEO George Sullivan, Guardian fashion writer Lauren Cochran and Hypebeast magazine editor Arby Li.
