Gordon Banks should have caught it

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

England teammate Alan Mullery jokes that Gordon Banks should have caught the ball when he made his wonder save against Pele in the 1970 World Cup. Banks made the acrobatic diving fingertip save to deny Pele's goalbound header in the World Cup group stages. The save is often described as the best in football history but Mullery reveals he told Banks he should have done even better and made a catch! Mullery was speaking to Garry Richardson on 5live Sportsweek, in a special tribute to Banks who has sadly passed away aged 81. From Sportsweek Sunday 17 February 2019
