Donald Trump’s teeth rattling rebuke to NATO members at the Brussels summit last week was ostensibly about their failure, in his eyes, to pay enough into the communal defence fund. However, analysts believe that the spat presages a more fundamental pulling away by America from the multilateral organisation further down line. Could NATO live without its most important member?
