In 2013 Sammy exposed the extent of child sexual exploitation by talking to the Times newspaper journalist Andrew Norfolk when no one else would listen. This triggered the opening of every historic case of child sexual exploitation in South Yorkshire and prompted the Jay Report, which identified at least 1,400 victims between 1997 and 2013 in the town.
