Emma Donoghue chooses Patricia Rozema's 1987 film for Front Row's Queer Icons series. I've Heard the Mermaids singing is a Canadian film about a secretary (Sheila McCarthy) who falls for her boss, an art curator (Paule Baillargeon). Emma Donoghue is a bestselling novelist whose books include The Wonder, Frog Music and Room. The novel Room was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize and Emma's screenplay was nominated for an Oscar.
