Golf expert and 5 live summariser Jay Townsend says Dustin Johnson made the right decision to pull out of The Masters because of the long-term damage he could have done to his swing. World number one Johnson fell down the stairs at his rental house and hurt his back on Wednesday. Although he practiced, the discomfort continued and on day one in Augusta he walked up the first tee but then pulled out. Townsend agrees this was the right call as there was ‘no point in playing if he couldn’t compete’. He went on to comment that the long-term damage wouldn’t just be physical but also to his swing because he might ‘start compensating’ for the pain.
