A public consultation is being launched on plans for a third runway at Heathrow

The government announced Heathrow as its preferred option for expanding airport capacity. Matt Gorman, Heathrow Director of Sustainability: "It's a significant milestone and shows Heathrow is on course for delivery, and what the government have done today is publish a national policy statement. "It recognises the significant role that Heathrow place in the local economy...40,000 jobs locally and the opportunity to eliminate youth unemployment. "This process is the beginning of a consultation."
