Levels of personal debt on the rise throughout Berkshire

The average person in the South has debts of around £40,000. David Harper, the Reading branch Chief Executive of the Citizen's Advice Bureau: "The problem with debt are not just around Christmas, it's just at that time they all culminate, and we certainly deal with a lot of debt problems throughout the year. "There are a lot of reasons why we can get into to debt. Someone can plummet into a crisis with debt over illness, a loss of employment, and relationship break down...there's a whole host of reasons. "These things can often happen to you, and you have little control over them."
