The American jeans maker Levi Strauss has cemented its place in the history of denim, but the material actually originated in France. A small textile business in the city of Nimes is trying to revive an industry that thrived there in the 19th century. The BBC's Joshua Thorpe has been to southern France to see efforts to resurrect production of denim, a textile originally known locally as Serge de Nimes.
