Danny Willett's US college coach said he would never have believed the teenage student he trained would go on to win the Masters, 11 years later. Willet, who on Sunday became the first English player to win the Masters for 20 years, went to Jacksonville State University on a golf scholarship when he was 17. James Hobbs, the head of the golf program, said Willett would discuss which major tournament was the biggest with American students, and always argued in favour of the Open, rather than the Masters.
