Composer Richard Rodney Bennett died on Christmas Eve at the age of 76 in his adopted home city of New York. His multi-faceted career ranged from composing operas, concert works and choral music, to Oscar nominated film scores, most famously Murder on the Orient Express. A fabulous jazz pianist and an inimitable singer, his contribution to musical life was unique.
