What is it like to do a spacewalk?

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Ahead of Tim Peak's spacewalk, Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano spoke of his experience saying there are "no words" to describe what it's like. Parmitano was the first Italian astronaut to complete a spacewalk in 2013 and stated, "there are no words to describe the feeling of seeing our planet from above through a visor". He also spoke of a "major malfunction" in his space suit during his spacewalk that caused his helmet to fill with water "like a fish bowl". He added, "it's a good story especially as I'm here telling it ... we learnt a lot from that trip". Tim Peake's first spacewalk will take place on Friday January 15th when he replaces a failed voltage regulator outside the International Space Station (ISS). It will be the first ever spacewalk by a British astronaut. This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on January 13 2016.
