Israel's feral cat problem

Israel has a feral cat problem, with as many as two million feral cats living rough and scavenging for food around the country. A neutering programme run by an animal charity has been keeping the numbers down but this year faced a challenge from a right-wing, religious Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel, who felt that it was against Jewish ethical principles to spend Israeli state money on interfering with the reproductive cycle.
