Vietnam Special: Mekong Delta Heads for Troubled Waters

Big Boss Interview

Available for over a year

The challenge of running a market economy in a state ruled by the Communist party. The BBC's Fergus Nicoll is live from Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam for a special edition of Business Matters. Fergus visits the city's stock exchange to hear about the consistent economic growth that's pushing Vietnamese ahead of its South East Asian neighbours. Also, it's one of the key destinations for clothing manufacturers, because of it's competitive pricing. But does cheap always means cheerful? Our reporter Vivienne Nunis finds out. And, we'll have an in-depth investigation into the environmental impact of hydropower dams and climate change on the fragile eco-system of the Mekong Delta. Fergus is joined throughout the programme by Lien Huang, a journalist based in Ho Chi Minh City and Ralph Silva from the consultancy Silva Research Network in Toronto. (Photo: The Mekong Delta.
