Four-legged snake discovery: 'My jaw dropped'

Today

Available for over a year

A fossil found in Brazil is the first four-legged snake scientists have ever seen. “My jaw dropped”, said palaeontologist Dr Dave Martill. If it was a snake, the 120 million year-old fossil would be the oldest ever, he said. Despite having four legs, Dr Martill found the fossil had lots of snake attributes and other features distinguishing them from lizards. The specimen, found in a German museum, was simply labelled "unknown fossil".
