Farnborough Aircraft Factory, Hampshire: British Military Aviation

World War One At Home

Available for over a year

World War One changed military aviation forever and it all began at Farnborough Aircraft Factory. Flimsy planes that could barely take off the ground were transformed into aircraft capable of crossing the Atlantic by the end of the war. Aviation went from being an experimental, unknown science to a new accepted method of aerial warfare. Farnborough Aircraft Factory was at the forefront of the pioneering development of the aeroplanes and involved in their design, build and maintenance. Richard Gardner, Chair of Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) is our guide on a tour of the original WW1 airbase. Location: Farnborough Aircraft Factory, Hampshire GU14 6TH Image: Farnborough Aircarft Factory, courtesy of Richard Gardner from Farnborough Air Sciences Trust
