Crowdsourced Journalism with BBC Pop Up

Over to You

Available for over a year

It is the BBC’s first mobile bureau in the United States - called BBC Pop Up. In the past four months they have landed in a particular town for a month and asked the residents what stories they would like them to cover. In the BBC Pop Up van, the team of video journalists go out and cover these stories and bring them to the world. BBC Pop Up producer Matt Danzico takes us on the road with him as he goes to follow up on a story he was told about in a grocery store in Sioux Falls, south Dakota. It leads him to a rancher named Wyatt, three hours west of the town, who is also the lead singer of a metal band called Fantome. Rajan Datar speaks to Matt to find out what the people he meets make of the BBC and what this immersive approach to journalism means for the journalists themselves and the residents who tell their stories.
