'Isolated' father: Friends hid from me after son's death

A life less lonely

Available for over a year

A father, whose teenage son took his own life, said friends would "hide in shops" because they "didn't know how to talk" to him in the street. Dennis Graham, 59, lost "best friend" Matthew, 17, four years ago, and became increasingly isolated. He said feelings of loneliness were triggered by seeing teenagers in the pub, or watching family television adverts. "I can start crying on two or three occasions just on one evening," he said. This clip is part of the BBC's A Life Less Lonely: a day of programming across the BBC exploring the effects of loneliness across the UK.
