Colin Barrett at Edinburgh Book Festival 2014

BBC at the Edinburgh Festivals

Available for over a year

BBC Arts is showcasing some of the most exciting new talent appearing at this year’s Edinburgh Book Festival featuring authors appearing under its ‘First Book Award’ umbrella. It is a chance to hear both debut authors and international writers newly translated into English, who promise to take literary Edinburgh by storm. Young Skins is Colin Barrett’s first collection of short stories, set in the fictional town of Glanbeigh, County Mayo. It is a place of harsh realities, filled with depression, alcoholism and bad decisions. Colin’s intoxicating stories are filled with moments of despair and hope. He skilfully laces subtle references to myths and legends throughout the collection, creating layers of intrigue. Colin is in conversation with folk singer-songwriter James Yorkston.
