Radio Leicester,6 mins

Available for over a year

Just over a month ago Ben Jackson had the opportunity to go to France and trace some of the areas that the Leicestershire Regiment had seen action during the First World War as part of our coverage of the centenary of the start of the war. Along with Chris Sturgess, Catherine Turnell and the regimental historian Richard Lane we based ourselves in the small town of Albert which sits just a few hundred yards away from the front line of the Somme. To give you an idea of the intensity of the action that took place there, I recorded Richard as we approached our overnight stop.
