In 1964, the American composer Terry Riley put on a concert of his music at the San Francisco Tape Music Centre, a concert which saw the premiere of a work which is now seen as one of the first pieces of musical Minimalism: In C. Examining In C and a host of other works, Charles Hazlewood and the BBC Concert Orchestra explore the rise of this phenomenon, its popularity today and its roots in both American and European music of the past.
