Future for our farmers

Jonathan Lampon

Available for over a year

Feast or famine? Boom or bust? Land of plenty or land of empty? What does the future hold for our farmers here in Leicestershire and Rutland? Here on BBC Radio Leicester, we've heard conflicting forecasts for our farming community. While some experts have told us farmers are thriving, others are warning that some are barely surviving. We learned that calls for help from local farmers to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution have doubled in the last year. But on the other hand, some farmers across the county are seeing a very different picture with the National Farmers' Union telling us that the price of agricultural land is attracting record high prices. So where does the truth lie... if money doesn't grow on trees, does it grow on our farms? BBC Radio Leicester's Manish Verma reports.
