Mexico Vigilantes

Assignment

Available for over a year

In many parts of Mexico, insecurity has become the principle preoccupation for most people. Linda Pressly has been to the mountainous state of Guerrero, where people feel caught between the murderous drug cartels and absent or corrupt law enforcement. In an attempt to defend themselves, a growing number of people are joining armed self-defence groups and taking the law into their own hands. But who is monitoring these groups and can they be controlled? (Image of recruits to the new self-defence group of Tequanapa attending a meeting to elect their commanders. BBC Copyright )
