World Premiere of Speranza (Hope) by Mark-Anthony Turnage.

The Strand

Available for over a year

A new work by Mark-Anthony Turnage - Speranza - has its World Premiere in London. Speranza means hope in Italian - and the concept of hope permeates the score - with each of the five movements getting its name from the hope in a different language. Mark-Anthony explains his influences. In Chile a new generation of fiction writers are exploring life in the country under the dictatorship of General Pinochet. And the third novel by acclaimed writer Alejandro Zambra, Ways of Going Home, explores different ways of coming to terms with disorienting history. February 13th is World Radio Day. We pay hommage to the contribution made by audio pioneer Stefan Kudelski who took radio outdoors after he invented the first truly portable recording-machine way back in 1951 - the Nagra.
