Edward Stourton concludes his series about the coalition set up in the wake of the terrorist attacks of 11 September. The fall-out from September 11th created a swathe of new challenges. At the UN, nations worked together to fight terrorism, but when American attention turned to Iraq most of the world recoiled. The Middle East was allowed to fester - and then turned so violent America had to re-engage.
