Available for over a year

On 8 May 1945, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced the end of the Second World War in Europe. Defeat for Germany meant great rejoicing in Britain. Alan Johnston spoke to people at the centre of celebrations that day including Australian bomber pilot Geoffrey Cornish and British sailor George Broomhead. These first-hand accounts are brought together with archive recordings in this programme which was first broadcast in 2011. (Photo: George Broomhead in Trafalgar Square.
