Armenian killings

Witness History

Available for over a year

The deaths of hundreds of thousands of Armenians during World War 1 still casts a shadow over the country's relationship with neighbouring Turkey. Tom Esslemont heard the memories of two elderly Armenian survivors of that time, the painter Yelena Abrahamian (who died in 2012) and Rosa Khedirian, who was aged 3 in 1915. He also hears from Professor Ron Suny from the University of Michigan. This Witness was first broadcast in January 2010 (Photo: Widowed Armenian women and their children in Turkey at the time of the killings, September 1915) (Credit: Ullsteinbild/TopFoto)
