DJ, broadcaster, writer and dreamer Zakia Sewell provides the soundtrack to your dreams - playing music to ease the mind, soothe the soul, and open portals to new dimensions. Slide into the Sunday night mood with Zakia’s selection of smooth sounds… With a heavy dose of tracks from Ethiopia, inspired by her guests - the duo ZENA - a contemporary ethio-jazz duo from London made up of producer, keyboardist and synth player Yohan Kebede and bassist and producer Menelik. They join Zakia to share a bit about how they began as a covers band reimagining Ethiopian music for a new generation, their debut EP, some of their biggest inspirations, and a bit about their dreams. Elsewhere Zakia plays a few of her own favourite artists from Ethiopia including Mahmoud Ahmed, Mulatu Astatke and Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru, plus lots of new releases including SALAMANDA, Andrew Wasylyk and Tinariwen. There’s also some devotional songs including gospel from The Jordan Singers, some medieval prayer-inspired jazz from Mary Lou Williams, and Christian rock from Love Song. We want to hear your dreams! Send in tales of your sleepy adventures to dreamtime@bbc.co.uk or text us on 03700 100 600 A Reduced Listening Production for BBC Radio 6 Music.
