Premiered in 1915, Sibelius wrote his Symphony No. 5 at the instigation of the Finnish government to mark the composer's 50th birthday. The majestic finale was inspired by Sibelius seeing a group of swans taking flight. Top choice: Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Simon Rattle (cond.)
