Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain

Radio 3 in Concert

Available for 6 days

Ludovic Morlot conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in a programme of music inspired by Spain, by Turina and Manuel de Falla, and two French composers drawn to the Iberian Peninsula - Debussy and Ravel. Spanish song, dance rhythms and lyrical Moorish and Andalusian melodies characterise both Turina's Danzas Fantasticas and de Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain. The highly-acclaimed Scottish pianist, Steven Osborne, joins the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as the soloist in de Falla's Iberian work. Debussy's shimmering orchestral work, Iberia, infuses typical Spanish music with a Gallic flavour, and Ravel's iconic and mesmerising 'bolero' dance, which was originally commissioned as part of a ballet, brings the concert to a dramatic climax. Recorded on 14th January at Lighthouse in Poole, and presented by Martin Handley.
