Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain

Ludovic Morlot conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Spanish music including Ravel's iconic Bolero and de Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain with Steven Osborne.

Ludovic Morlot conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in a programme of music inspired by Spain, by Turina and Manuel de Falla, and two French composers drawn to the Iberian Peninsula - Debussy and Ravel. Spanish song, dance rhythms and lyrical Moorish and Andalusian melodies characterise both Turina's Danzas Fantasticas and de Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain. The highly-acclaimed Scottish pianist, Steven Osborne, joins the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as the soloist in de Falla's Iberian work. Debussy's shimmering orchestral work, Iberia, infuses typical Spanish music with a Gallic flavour, and Ravel's iconic and mesmerising 'bolero' dance, which was originally commissioned as part of a ballet, brings the concert to a dramatic climax.

Recorded on 14th January at Lighthouse in Poole, and presented by Martin Handley.
