Re-inventing Yourself: Malaika Kegode chats to Polly Meech

One to One

Available for over a year

Malaika Kegode has always been drawn to stories of people who manage to re-invent themselves and this is what inspired her to leave her rural Devon home in her early twenties, to escape a situation where drugs and violence had become part of her life. She made the decision to leave and try to start again with the support of her parents and she’s now a successful Bristol-based writer and performer. In this programme, Malaika talks to someone she met in the theatre world at the very start of her own career. Polly Meech was a theatre manager at Bristol’s Tobacco Factory venue. But losing her mother to cancer and her own diagnosis with the same disease, led Polly to re-assess her life and make some pretty big changes. Produced by Jo Dwyer for BBC Audio in Bristol
