Covid Passports; British Food; Cement shortage

You and Yours

Available for over a year

People in the UK who’ve been double vaccinated can now get a Covid Passport confirming their status. The passport will be needed for travel, as well as attending large gatherings such as sporting events. But we’ve been hearing from listeners who are having difficulty obtaining one, because they received their two doses of the vaccine in different UK countries. New research for the National Farmers Union suggests that there’s more support than ever for British grown and reared food. We speak to the NFU's Minette Batters about the challenges of meeting this demand from shoppers who expect low prices and year round availability for many foods. Cement is the latest building material to be in short supply at builders' merchants and DIY stores. We speak to two small businesses about the effect it’s having on their jobs and to John Newcomb, CEO of the Builders Merchants Federation, who explains why there’s less cement available to buy at the moment. A new website has just been launched that will allow estate agents to charge prospective house buyers £30 to guarantee a property viewing. We speak to its founder, who says that it will help to root out "time wasters" and prevent no-shows. However, the move has not been widely welcomed, with some in the industry suggesting there's simply no demand for the service. Producer: Catherine Lund Presenter: Peter White
