The woodlark, with its buff-white eye stripe and a spikey head crest, could be mistaken for its skylark cousin. However the much rarer woodlark is the real songster of the two. Less often seen than heard, its memorable descending staccato song can inspire emotions as it flies from an evening vantage point, circling over and around the fortunate listener; one of the best songsters in southern England.
